Choose your Ruby Candidate!
As described on the Saturday event, every player supports his/her favorite L5R character.
There are some restrictions though … It has to be a samurai personality from the current play arc, up to IG3 (EoW not included) from the clan you play on that day.
Every player has to bring a copy of his/her champion, which should be shown at the beginning of each game!
Needless to say that it should be a reasonable choice story-wise to be approved by the AEG story team.

Mixed news
Hi,
As the event comes closer, there are various news arriving … good and less good …
Starting with the not-so-good news:
Steve Argyle can’t make it unfortunately; I had announced him before he could confirm 100%, but he ended up with a double booking the very same weekend and he regrets that he can’t make it for the 10th anniversary (as he should
).
As for the good news:
It looks as ToRC will have an as multicultural attendance as in the past; players from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, the UK, Ireland, Greece, Sweden, Spain and Luxembourg have mentionnend that they are attending. We’re looking at around 100 players at the moment, which is excellent!

events sorted out
Hi,
I updated the events and tournament format pages over the past 2 days and posted the news on various forums.
Curiously the news that upset more players (especially Spider players) was the Sunday format with Open Strongholds bound to current legal factions, That is the same format we had on ToRC 9 in 2007. I’ll drop a couple of thoughts about it, and hope no one it too upset.
The Sunday format is traditionally different to the format on Saturday. And it should be so; there is no point in doing two mirror tournaments to see who is luckier on day2. So finding a format was one of the challenges. We felt that Legacy or multiplayer would not be too popular; so the idea was to give the day2 event a twist to challenge the deckbuilders. The twist as it is now is one of the more obvious ones which interferes only to a certain degree with the game, but surely more than enough to make it interesting…
The more radical change I posted was how the Ruby Champion is determined. Over the past 7 events it was a jury of players/judges that elected the Ruby Champion, after long discussions and deliberations. The composition of the jury was essential to have an objective discussion. In that way we used to take out of the 15 best ranked players from day1 and day2 we took 5 players from different countries in the ranking between 6 and 15 (or maybe a bit further up) so that they could decide whom to award the title, based on the 3 criteria: fair-play, originality of the deck and playing skills (= rank). The deliberation of the jury always took quite a long time … hours occasionally … so we tried to get the jury together earlier in the afternoon, before the finals … someone pointed out that it took so long because of the free beers that the jury received … hmm … so if we had left them with dry throats, it would have sped up the procedure – I don’t think so. The more unnerving part was the flames on the AEG forum afterwords from people that had neither attended nor were informed about ToRC. On a sidenote thx to everyone who took on our side to clear up things. I reread the posts recently and it is well appreciated. Although at the time it was another reason to stop ToRC … well somehow we got back into it, there were quite a few mails, conversations and phone call from the very top of the AEG line involved … not the only reason to be honest. After 11 years of L5R events we made many friends at ToRC and other events that we want to see again; so we decided to relaunch the 10th ToRC. What happens after 2010 is to be seen, I won’t address that issue yet. 10th ToRC is a reunion after 3 years, it is a celebration of the 10th Test of the Ruby Champion, and as such we try to make it our best event!
A couple of words about the radical change of determining the Ruby Champion. We put together an elaborate mathematical formula that gives credit to skill on day1 and skill and popular support on day2. The popular support is where every player is challenged to make a wise choice for one of the candidates. This choice is influenced by everyone’s personal preference, be that clan loyalty, personal appreciation of a candidate or maybe the choice of character of a candidate. There are plenty of possibilities … in the end, there will be a 10th Ruby Champion.
Thx for reading my thoughts of the day,
more will follow, I’m sure of that
